Press Release: Recycled Glamour

Berlin, 08.09.2022 – Autumn calls for quilting. At RAFFAUF, the quilt collection is entirely recycled: from the outer fabric to the padding to the zips, every detail is made from recycled materials.

A highlight in Winter 2022 is a fabric the label calls "Recycled Glamour": It is made entirely of recycled plastic bottles and shimmers in a dark purple. When seeing the fabric from up close, a shiny striped pattern becomes visible. "Our quilt collection is recycled from head to toe," explains designer Caroline Raffauf. "But sustainability doesn't mean compromising on design for us: We're going for recycled glamour in winter."

In addition to shimmering colours, the new collection also features matte basics in dark sea blue or light desert sand tones. The designs combine A-line cuts with large shawl-collar hoods and distinctive cuffs, fitted drawstrings, and accents in black rep ribbon or tone on tone.

RAFFAUF sources the recycled fibres from Italy: for the quilt collection, PET bottles collected in northern Italy are melted, spun into new threads, and woven into recycled polyester fabrics. With a stopover in a Polish sewing factory, RAFFAUF's recycled garments travel only about 1,300 kilometres before the finished collection arrives at the label's Berlin showroom. According to RAFFAUF, their recycled polyester consumes 60% less energy and over 90% less water in production than virgin polyester and is recyclable at the end of the product life cycle.
